I Am Yup’ik tells the story of a 16-year-old Alaskan Native, Byron Nicholai, who leaves his tiny village to compete in a basketball tournament hundreds of miles across frozen tundra. Byron leads his village to a championship in the district tournament, which ultimately unites the Toksook Bay community and creates hope throughout the team, family members, and the community-at-large.
