In "What Would It Look Like?", Sami Awad asks, "Is it possible to create a future in which every individual not only fits into, but passionately wants to belong to, a future in which everyone's identities, narratives, and belief systems are mutually enhancing and complementary?" Do you think such a future is possible? What would it look like?

Not to detract from the question, but it seems to me what it looks like is really not as important as where it comes from. I'm not sure I want to be a part of a world where everyone is just all on board with one big story they are all really excited about, even if the dynamic is a harmonious one. Basically, my feeling is we need to respect the soul and base our visions on living from the soul, and things will fall into place if we are able to honor that. And of course, I say this because that is not based on any belief system or anything. Without it this kind of complementary dynamic is still no doubt possible, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who would feel that it would feel rather shallow. And of course there is a passion in the soul that could serve to fuel this kind of change, people may be motivated this way unconsciously - it just makes sense to consciously be engaged with it.

There is a new sense growing in me that I truly hold the power to bring change by being that change. I do not fully understand it, but as I examine my past I see an ever growing body of evidence that the state of my mind is what produced the world in which I live. It confuses me. How could I have created poverty? How could I have created pollution? I do not want these things.

I too am remembering the future. It is beautiful. I'm excited. I wait no longer.

I think it is already the case "that every individual fits into and is passionately participating in a future where everyone's identities, narratives, and belief systems are mutually enhancing and complementary". It's just that because we often lack the capacity to see the whole of reality at once that we are confused by what we do see. What is gives rise to what will be. There is no escape from the interwoveness of it. The Future is defined now.

People are passionately participating. Even when their passion looks like resigned apathy. They are passionately involved in resigned apathy. How lovely.

Oh what a divine thing. It is certainly something I focus on many times a day always have. I know we're heading there or are already there, just humanity and human time is catching up. As a coach said to me when saying I imagine a planet where we live like peaceful people on Star Trek episodes (you know everyone does what they want, no money, no real issues and if so they're worked out then and there, so cool) she said "you're remembering the future". Love that I do believe after having this knowing of where we are headed that the world is evolving and changing now very quickly and how exciting it is. We are the ones we have been waiting for!

Welcome to this month's Dialogues theme: What Would It Look Like?

Since we're confronted daily with news chronicling the steady (precipitous?) decline of our societal institutions and planetary ecosystems, it is very easy to turn away in despair or redouble our efforts in a futile attempt to maintain the status quo. Who hasn't felt an urge at times to want to escape?

With so much negativity coming at us, with so many distractions to grab our attention, it takes a determined effort to envision the contours of a positive outcome, a promising future. Yet, without such a vision we can too easily succumb to that which is pulling us down and miss the opportunity to help shape the future.

What does a promising future look like? Given the assumptions we make about the world, answers are undoubtedly as varied and unique as there are people to offer them, but all contribute. Individually and collectively, we are being pushed and pulled into authoring a new story that works for everyone.

I look forward to this dialogue about our future, as we share our visions and insights and dreams about what it would look like.
