The Power of Masses

Anshu Gupta, executive director of a volunteer-run recycling program in New Delhi, explains that the key to acting on a large scale is accommodating everybody's strengths. Inviting people to offer whatever skills they have in service to a cause empowers both the individual and the movement. Change is limited when the masses underestimate their own potential.

Anshu Gupta is an Ashoka Fellow and the executive director of Goonj, a primarily volunteer run organization based in New Delhi that provides clothes and other basic amenities to millions across India by turning one person's waste into a resource for another. In 1998 Anshu left his job as a manager of corporate communications in a large Indian company to found Goonj and travel India in order to understand the needs of the people of his country. I found this site while researching opening a recycled clothing and other repurposed items store, but now would like to discuss the clothing bank concept and possibly entwine the two so as we collect items not acceptable can be sent and processed by Goonj. I welcome contact'
