A Game for Life

Grassroot Soccer project coordinator, Nolusindiso "Titie" Plaatjie, uses soccer to educate South African youth about HIV/AIDS prevention. She describes her childhood in the poverty-stricken city of Port Elizabeth and how soccer gave her the drive to be who she is today.

Nolusindiso "Titie" Plaatjie was born in Peddie and now lives in Port Elizabeth. She studied Human Movement Science at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and dreams of becoming an engineer. In 2001, Nolusindiso was named captain of the provincial team and is a well known soccer star at provincial level. She has been playing soccer since the age of five. She joined Grassroot Soccer specifically to assist with HIV/AIDS awareness believing that the fight against HIV/AIDS is a fight for the world. Currently working as Port Elizabeth Project Coordinator, Titie is a key facilitator in raising HIV/AIDS awareness among youth and people of her community. Full bio and links »

The music is fabulous, as is the message and the documentary itself. Does anyone know the names or artists names of the songs?

BRILLIANT! and Inspiring, I'm sure if you showed this to Adidas you could get all the soccer balls & uniforms for a lot of those kids as in-kind.

The human spirit was very much alive in this video! with people like Titie in the world we will be alright, we will rise above our narrow selves and reach out to our fellow world citizens.

Congratulations, brilliant!

this is a remarkable piece of work. i have been a person with aids (pwa) for more than 20 years now (am 57 living in los angeles), and titie knows what it's about. am going to attempt to embed & share the video in my text-based blog --- a new technological feat for me if i succeed --- but i will send readers your way either way.

please, who are the filmographers?

namaste

So inspirational! Exciting ways of engaging people are exactly what we need to approach sustainability and health issues in a holistic way. I was so inspired by this story that I wrote about it in a recent article. You can read it here: http://www.granvilleonline.ca/gr/blogs/green-vs-reality
